Producer Sacha Sommer’s Career Background



Director and Producer Sacha Sommer graduated from Emerson College in the early 1990s with a degree in film, and quickly got his foot into the door of the film and entertainment industry. Working with stars like Charlie Sheen, Dick Clark, Tupac, Kevin Nides, and Terry Power, Sacha Sommer built up an impressive resume and list of production credits for himself early in his career. Sacha Sommer’s name can be found in the credit list for films (Dominic’s Castle, Scandalous, City Dragon, The Chase), TV Shows (Bloopers and Practical Jokes, How I Spent My Summer Vacation), and music videos (I Get Around, Keep Your Head Up).

Sacha Sommer’s biggest break came in 1995, when he directed and produced his first independent documentary, “Intervention: Chronicles of Terror,” which attracted investors who helped him found his own production company, Arawak Pictures Inc. Since then, Sacha Sommer has worked on a variety of non-fiction productions, most notably Call & Response: A Concert To End Slavery, as well as documentaries on Voodoo in Haiti, Macchu Picchu, and The Anti-Barbie. Sacha Sommer is also a reiki and crystal healing practitioner and an archery instructor in Los Angeles, and takes on graphic design and editing work on a freelance basis.

Sacha Sommer Biography

Sacha Sommer is the owner and operator of Arawak Pictures Inc, an independent film production studio. An aspiring and innovative director, producer, and writer of films, commercials, TV shows, as well as a model, actor, and graphic designer, Sacha Sommer has been in the film industry for nearly twenty years.

Sacha Sommer grew up in Washington, DC, where he attended the Edmund Burke School, and was captain of both his school’s and a local select soccer team. He also wrestled and played tennis and basketball. For further education, Sacha Sommer left DC to attend Emerson College in Boston, where he studied film and mass communications and eventually gained a Bachelor of Science degree. While in school, Sacha Sommer was able to travel to LA for two film internships through Emerson’s Alternative Film Program. He speaks French and Haitian Creole fluently.

After graduation, Sacha Sommer moved to Haiti, where he wrote, directed, and produced his award-winning documentary on the invasion of Haiti, “Intervention Chronicle of Terror,” and founded Arawak Pictures, Inc. Sacha Sommer later moved to Miami, FL, where he taught high school art and physical education. In 2006, Sacha Sommer moved to Los Angeles, where he currently lives and produces films, shows, and commercials in various genres.

In addition to his film career, Sacha Sommer is devoted to helping others, and has contributed his skills to films and documentaries to bring attention to important issues around the globe, like Haiti: Chronicles of Terror and Call & Response: A Concert to End Slavery. Sacha Sommer has ublic service announcements about drunk driving and the world trade center attacks, and has helped the US Army film recruitment materials. Sacha Sommer is a crystal healing and reiki practitioner. In 2010, Sacha Sommer became a certified level one archery instructor. Sacha Sommer enjoys recurve archery, and practices gracie jiu jitsu and mixed martial arts.

Public Education Through Film Important for Sacha Sommer



Sacha Sommer got his start in the film industry in the early 1990s, interning for Paramount Pictures as an assistant to Saturday Night Fever star Kevin Nides, and working on Tupac’s music videos “Keep Your Head Up” and “I Get Around” as an assistant to Terry Power at Power Films. Sacha Sommer’s early career also saw him acting and producing in a number of fiction-based television shows and films – crime dramas like The Chase and Dominic’s Castle, martial arts films like City Dragon, and comedy shows like Dick Clark Production’s “Bloopers and Practical Jokes.”

In 1995, however, Sacha Sommer entered the world of documentary filmmaking, setting out to educate the world about the invasion and occupation of Haiti through his award-winning film, “Intervention Chronicles of Terror.” Since then, Sacha Sommer’s filmmaking has largely focused on improving public education about important world issues through the use of film and media communications.

After a brief hiatus from filmmaking in the mid 2000s when Sacha Sommer decided to focus on teaching art and physical education to high schoolers, the director and producer has been working on various public education initiatives through film. In 2005, Sacha Sommer produced a public service announcement about the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center, and a PSA regarding the dangers of impact of drunk driving the following year. Sacha Sommer showed his support for America’s troops in 2007, acting as assistant director for commercials and recruitment materials for GoArmy.com and other US Army efforts.

In 2008, Sacha Sommer contributed his production and direction talent to Call & Response: A Concert to End Slavery, which brought together musicians and humanitarians to raise awareness of issues like labor slaver, sex trafficking, and the use of child soldiers around the world. After the Haitian earthquake in 2010, Sacha Sommer produced a video calling for international relief funding and documenting the devastation brought to Haiti by the earthquake. He is currently working on a documentary and a photo book regarding the devastation brought on by the earthquake.
